How to Put Your Logo on Clothing

Branded apparel is one of the most popular and effective options for chosen merchandise. But if you’re never done it before, procuring company branded clothing can seem pretty mystifying. To help you out, we’ve assembled a 11 step guide that will walk you through exactly how to put your logo on clothing and accessories. Then we’ll showcase some of the most popular examples of our site to give you some inspiration for your next branded apparel design.

How to Put Your Logo on Clothing and Other Apparel

Putting your logo on clothing may seem complicated, but as long as you find a reliable vendor, it’s actually a pretty easy process. Here’s how to put your logo on clothing and other apparel in 11 easy steps:

1. Find a trusted vendor.

There are a lot of retailers claiming to create custom logo apparel, but there’s no telling if you’ll get a final product that looks anything like the picture (or if you’ll receive the product at all). That’s why the first step is to find a trusted vendor with a long history of quality products and customer satisfaction. For example, at iPromo we have more than 20 years of experience and have helped over 45,000 customers with their promotional products!

2. Determine your budget.

Before ordering any branded merchandise, whether that’s clothing or something else, you need to have a budget in mind. This will help you down your options considerably and ensure that your budget stays balanced. Even if you just have a range in mind, that will be a big help in making your final selection.

3. Figure out how many units you need.

Along with the budget, you also need to know how many units you need. We always recommend ordering a few extra just in case, so determine your minimum number of products, and then tack on a few. Lots of products have order minimums, so this may help you further narrow your options. Keep in mind that the more units you order, the more you’ll save per unit, so a bulk order might not be as expensive as you think it is!

4. Decide what type of apparel you want.

You also need to decide what type of apparel you want. You can put your logo on pretty much anything, from jackets to shirts to sweatpants to baseball caps to custom shoes. Keep in mind that if you choose garments instead of accessories, you’ll need to order different sizes to fit your recipients and possibly both men’s and women’s fits as well.

5. Choose sizes, if applicable.

Like we said, if you’re choosing garments, you’ll need to select how many of each size to order. If you’re ordering for a smaller group, you can survey each of them to get a more precise idea of how many of each size you need; be sure to specify if it’s unisex, men’s, or women’s sizing since some people’s size varies depending on the cut. If your group is too large for that, look back at some past giveaways to get a rough idea of the most popular sizes and let that be your guide. We also recommend ordering some extras in each size in case people decide they’d rather have a tighter or looser fit.

6. Select your color or colors.

Most custom apparel options come in multiple colors, so you can choose whichever one fits your brand the best. You may also wish to order multiple colors of the same items to distinguish different teams, or just give people different options to choose from. You will also need to choose the color of your logo. Some apparel items only offer a single color black or white logo, but others can support a full color logo. Choose an item-and-logo color combination that will make your logo really pop.

7. Determine the best logo design.

Most companies have various logo combinations, including a logo and name combination, a standalone logo, and a standalone name. When selecting a logo or graphic to put on the clothing, pay special attention to the imprint area, which can vary greatly in size. A very small imprint area might mean that the full logo wouldn’t be legible and that an alternate design might be a better choice. You’ll have the chance to see how different logo options will look on your apparel of choice during the proof process.

8. Choose your transfer process.

The transfer process refers to how exactly your logo is applied to the apparel. Embroidery, screen print, and heat transfer are some of the most popular ones that we offer, but there are others. In some cases, only one option will be available for your chosen apparel, but in some cases you will be able to choose. Sometimes a cost difference is associated with choosing a different transfer process, but not always, so don’t let that deter you from exploring your options.

9. Send over the correct file.

Ideally, we prefer to have a logo file with a transparent background for best results. We can usually create a mockup with a PNG, JPG, or even a PDF logo file. However, we might ask you for an EPS file once we’re ready to start the transfer process so we can upload it to our specialized software. If you need help with that part of the process, our customer service reps will help you get the correct file types so that the final result turns out well.

10. Edit and approve the proofs.

We’ll send you design proof of each clothing or accessory so that you can review the mockups before we start the transfer process. We want you to be totally happy with the final product, so don’t be afraid to offer feedback and suggest changes — that’s what the entire proofing process is for. We don’t want to send the clothing to be printed or embroidered until you’re satisfied with the design proofs.

11. Enjoy the final product!

After the transfer process is finished, we’ll package it all up and ship it to you (or we’ll ship it straight to your recipients, if you choose drop shipping instead). We hope you enjoy your new custom logo apparel!
