Getting email addresses for marketing

Email remains one of the most powerful and cost-effective marketing tools for your business. In fact, according to The Direct Marketing Association, email has an ROI of approximately 4,300 percent. However, if you don’t have many subscribers to send messages to, email marketing won’t do much for your organization. Luckily, there are several ways you can gather email addresses from customers.

Advertise on everything you print
People may be more likely to go to your website and fill out a form with their contact information if you advertise on everything you print. Something as simple as a receipt or the bag you put your products in should include your company’s website address. When customers have a physical reminder of your website in front of them, it could be enough to push them to offer their email addresses.

Utilize trade shows
Before you hand attendees promotional products at the next trade show you attend, have them provide their email addresses. If you offer promotional items people can use in their daily lives, such as branded mugs and promotional bags, people will be more likely to give away their contact information.

Run a social media giveaway contest
Another way to obtain email addresses is through a social media giveaway contest. During the signup process, ask participants to share their emails. Mass Planner, a social media automation technology company, recommended choosing a prize that correlates with what your business does. If you offer a prize that is related to what your organization does, people will be more likely to enter the contest. For example, if you run a hair salon, you could give away a blow dryer or curling iron.

Give a sneak peak
If you provide part of a resource for free and offer the rest when users give their email addresses, you can entice them to give their contact information. For instance, if you own a marketing company, you could write a post about ways to attract new customers on your website. At the bottom of the post, you could write something like, “If you sign up for our newsletter, you will receive our exclusive guide for boosting your customer base with five additional strategies on attracting consumers.”
